READ.ME file for TurboLog 2.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
This file contains some last minute corrections that came to my attention
after the manual had been printed, together with changes that have occurred
as a result of product enhancements.
There are three other files in the distribution pack which are also worth
reading:
VERSION.DAT A complete version release history, showing when various bug
fixes and functional enhancements were implemented.
HINTS.DAT A potpourri of hints and tips including some of the most common
problems people have and how to get round them.
LICENCE.INF Several people have asked me about the legal aspects of computer
logging using TurboLog. In this file, I discuss ways in which you
can keep on the "right side of the law". Note: this file only
applies to UK licensees.
Page 7-1 The online help ASCII file is called TL2.HLP, not TURBOLOG.HLP
Page 7-3 TURBOLOG.HLP. All references to this should read TL2.HLP.
Page 19-2 The examples show $ signs for substitution. These should be % signs
as shown in the substitution field descriptions at the top of page.
COMMAND REFERENCE CARD CHANGES
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
In the PACKET OPERATIONS (Filtered, Unfilt & Mail) panel, the commands SEND A
TALK (Alt-T) to SEND A WX REPORT (Alt-X) should be shown as the letter alone,
without the Alt. (ie: Send a talk is T rather than Alt-T, and so on).
ADDITIONAL INFORMATION
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Some features are not adequately described in the manual, as follows:
>> The ALARM CLOCK feature.
This is accessed from the F8 pull-down menu in the logbook window. There are
two options: list and edit. The remainder of the operation of this feature
should be self explanatory.
>> The Callsign Buffer.
Up to 10 calls are buffered from the callsign field, whether or not they have
been entered as QSOs. The buffer can be scrolled through by use of the
Cntl-CUL and Cntl-CUR keys. This means you should hold down the Control key,
then press either cursor-right or cursor-left, as required. The buffered call
will be placed back in the callsign field for you.
>> Backup and Restore.
These are available from the F8 pull-down menu in the logbook window. In
addition, you can type either BACKUP or RESTORE into the callsign field.
UPGRADING TO A NEW VERSION
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Please always be careful to use the new configuration file (NEW.CNF on the
distribution disk) when upgrading. The VERSION parameter in the configuration
file must match that of the program otherwise TurboLog will not run.
Use the INSTALL procedure and select upgrade, then the new .CNF file will
automatically become TURBOLOG.CNF and your existing .CNF file will be
renamed OLD.CNF. Use OLD.CNF to go through TURBOLOG.CNF and update your
personal parameter settings.
